What is a FICO score?
FICO stands for Fair Issac and Co. the company that developed the first credit scoring model. FICO was originally used by all three credit bureaus. Eventually Equifax and TransUnion branched out and came up with their own scoring models, Experian continued to use FICO. FICO continues to be the standard that most creditors will look at to evaluate creditworthiness. FICO is a registered trademark of Fair Isaac Corporation.
